Umtanum Creek off Old Durr Road – March 2018

It’s been a few months since I’ve hit the trails so the need is real to feel the dirt beneath the wheels. According to reports on the various Overland pages on insta that I follow, the snow has retreated to about 3400′ elevation, at least on the east side of the Cascade mountains. Heading east over Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 towards Ellensburg, then heading south leads one up to the Manastash ridge. Old Durr road is a well known dirt trail, (it’s part of a section of the WABDR), that leads over to ridge and onto Yakima. The elevation can get upwards of 3600′ if one goes to the antennae farm.

We stopped on Umtanum Creek to shoot a few rifles, have a bbq and just enjoy the outdoors after a few months of winter keeping us indoors.

    1. Fortune Creek area is a fav of mine, stunningly beautiful with some fun trails. The elevation of the furthest point on the Hawkins Mtn trail is at about 6000, so mid-May is ambitious as the snow will still likely be pretty deep. If you give it a shot – let me know how it went.
