After heading north on a few errands, there was a little extra time to explore the area. Heading up Sultan Basin road from Sultan, WA, an area that used to be perfect for chanterelle mushroom hunting before a good portion of the road was paved and the thick forests on either side were lumber-harvested, I traveled further than I had ever before, all the way to Spada Lake. Every other time I’ve come up this way the dirt track was gated and closed to visitors. Luckily enough, that was not the case today.
Spada Lake is the reservoir for the city of Everett and Snohomish County. This land and lake are owned by the local utility district so they keep a tight reign on how it can be used. On this afternoon I had the area to myself, which gave a sense of stillness and tranquility.
